Of the 300+ Members of the Soccer section, the vast majority are playing members, for one of the six competitive men’s teams, the Womens team, one of our three social sides, or amongst club’s junior sides.
The Club 1st Team competes in the professional BOC Life Hong Kong Premier League. Our Second Team, known as Lucky Mile, plays in the HKFA Division 2, while Albion, Wanderers and Colts teams compete in the First Division of the Yau Yee League, playing on Sundays. The Vets team participates in the Hong Kong Legal League Legends competition whilst the Women play in the Jockey Club Women’s Football League (1st Division). At the youth level, Hong Kong Football Club plays in the HKFA Jockey Club Youth Leagues in the U18, U16, U15, U14 and U13 age groups.
All of these teams have an exceptional record of success over the years, often being crowned Division champions.
The annual HKFC Citi Soccer Sevens, hosted by the Section and held on the main club pitch in late May, has become a major international televised sporting event. Over the years, it has featured professional teams from England, Scotland, Holland, Spain, China, Japan, Hong Kong, South Korea and other Asian countries. The event also features a Veterans tournament that has attracted many famous international players of yesteryear. Other famous football personalities who are too numerous to mention individually have been guests of the Soccer Section to speak at Charity Dinners and fund-raising events.
The aims of the Soccer Section are to compete at the highest level available, involve the Hong Kong community in as many teams and activities as possible and to contribute to raising the standard of ‘the beautiful game’ in Hong Kong. Equally important is providing Section Members with the opportunity to play a regular game of football and to enjoy a very active social scene.
